Pregnancy
Matters opened in January 1980 in Carbondale by a group of
concerned individuals who wanted to help those facing an untimely
pregnancy. In 1989, the agency opened its Marion extension
office. With the help from a grant from the United Parcel
Service, our Anna office opened in August of 2000. The Perry
County office opened in August 2009 on the third floor of
Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
Our
three offices now serve more than 3,000 individuals and families
each year from 12 different southern Illinois counties. We
help people regardless of their place of residence, marital
status, race, religion, or socio- economic status.
Our organization is governed by a Board of Directors. Their
experience and expertise help guide the decisions that determine
our policies, procedures, and services.
Our
Advisory Board gives us key advice in their respective area
of expertise, lends counsel to our future vision, and provides
many leadership gifts. |

Our
medical staff includes a Medical Director to oversee our free
sonogram services. We have volunteer nurses who gather medical
histories from our clients, provide patient education, and
answer questions to assist in maintaining a healthy pregnancy.
Our ultrasound technicians volunteer once a week to confirm
a viable pregnancy, make referrals for prenatal care, etc.
Our
directors train and oversee our volunteer staff, as well as
play a vital role in fundraising and community awareness activities. |
